Our Story

We invite you to join us in our love of linen and modern design, and in practical and beautiful goods for everyday life.

Useful, Beautiful

Two words that motivate me in my work and at home. Designer and craftsman William Morris said it best: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”

I started Studiopatro with this thought in mind. My work has always centered on art and design, first as an art teacher and then as a graphic designer. I loved working with words and images. I designed and art directed catalogs for Williams-Sonoma and worked with amazing photographers, stylists and chefs. This naturally inspired my next endeavor and the linen tea towel became the perfect canvas for new work.

Color, Pattern, Simplicity

I think of our linens as an accent – of eye-catching color, of graphic, modern patterns and clever words that inspire. I hope they bring a smile to your face and add a bit of beauty and color to your home. I love that the simple kitchen towel can become a special token, yet still remain its humble and hard-working self.

In my kitchen, I always have plenty of linen towels and cotton flour sacks on hand to quickly dry my hands and dishes, wipe countertops, cushion bowls, use as hot pads, or wash and dry salad greens. I encourage customers to use their towels, wash them often, and enjoy the patina that comes with age. These practical habits inspired our motto: Use Cloth Not Paper.

Linen Works

Our linen is the finest available and is naturally sustainable and luxurious. We test for absorbency and sturdiness and our these goods work beautifully. The linen remains strong as it gets softer with use.

And did you know... linen naturally resists dirt and stains, and is a stronger, more long-lasting fabric than cotton? It will stand the test of time through years of everyday use, making linen a natural and practical choice for all household tasks.

Working Locally

We love to work locally, creating meaningful relationships that honor the collaboration, talent and expertise of our sewing, screening and dyeing partners. Our hand printed towels use ecologically friendly water-based inks. The dyeing process uses low impact fiber-reactive dyes that are colorfast. Every detail is important to us, right down to the ribbon we tie on each package that goes out to you.

Always Creating

As we wrapped up our first decade in business, we made a creative move to a new studio and storefront on the Hyde Street cable car line in San Francisco. Change is good, and we love the inspiration that comes with our new space in the Russian Hill community.

We're designing and sewing in the studio, creating new products for the home. We're collaborating with other creative companies and expanding our reach to the food and hospitality industry. We are committed to beauty and practicality, to a high standard of quality and to our customer's satisfaction. Best of all, we're having fun doing what we love. We hope you'll come visit us!
